The OpenChoice PC Communication Package (TDSPCS1) contains three data sharing tools to complement Tektronix TDS200, TDS1000, TDS2000, TPS2000, TDS3000 Series oscilloscopes. Moving information from the oscilloscope to PCs for use with Windows applications is a simple, direct process using this new software package and popular connectivity methods such as RS232, GPIB, and LAN.

The software solutions included in this package provide simple-to-use tools to share oscilloscope data directly with industry standard data logging, analysis, and documentation programs. You’ll appreciate the capability to insert data and images directly into spreadsheets and documents via electronic connections, and with no extra steps like floppy-disk transfers or file conversions.

TDSPCS1 launches OpenChoice Desktop, TekExcel and TekWord toolbars to control and transfer data and images from Tektronix TDS200, TDS1000, TDS2000, TPS2000 and TDS3000 Series oscilloscopes to your PC. Capabilities include:

• Connect to the oscilloscope and transfer data from within Excel 2000/2002 and Word on the PC
• Toolbar design makes it easy and intuitive for Excel and Word users
• Captures waveforms, measurements and screen images
• A separate Windows program captures data without requiring Excel 2000/2002 or Word.
• Retrieves and saves settings from the oscilloscope. To readjust the scope, edit the settings as a text file and send them to the instrument.

Seamless integration with third-party software applications simplifies documentation and analysis tasks. Easily utilize popular commercial software or create custom programs using familiar application development tools and environments, such as MATLAB and LabVIEW, for detailed analysis or documentation.

The three programs included in this package are:

• TekXL Toolbar for MS Excel: Transfers waveform, measurement, and setup data directly between the oscilloscopes and Excel. Requires Excel 2000 or 2002 (i.e. XP)
• TekW Toolbar for MS Word: Transfers oscilloscope screen images directly between the oscilloscopes and Word. Requires Word 2000 or 2002 (i.e. XP)
• OpenChoice Desktop: A Windows application to transfer waveform, measurement, setup data, and screen images directly between the oscilloscopes and the Windows Desktop. Requires Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP. MS Office is not required.

OpenChoice Desktop utility lets you save data and images to files for sharing with other users or programs. This utility displays screen images and plots waveform data in a colorful, intuitive user interface. Then it saves the information in commonly-used file formats such as .csv, .txt, .bmp, .jpeg, and .tif. These files are easy to share through email or load into other applications.

How is this Software Different than WaveStar?
The new OpenChoice PC Communication Software (TDSPCS1) is targeted to complement the basic data transfer capabilities of the optional communication modules for the TDS200/1000/2000/3000B series. It is a low-priced software package (included with the optional communication modules) that is designed to provide unique benefits comparatively superior to data transfer software from other competitors. WaveStar is a general-purpose oscilloscope-to-PC communication application that works with a wide range of Tektronix oscilloscopes, including legacy, value, and high-performance models. In addition to transferring data, WaveStar has many more features to enable remote presentations of waveforms, interactively sending settings to the instruments, and performing measurements and analysis of the waveform data. WaveStar is sold only as a stand-alone solution and is priced accordingly with the advanced features it provides.
