Magna-Power Electronics XR Series was designed from the ground up for high reliability and industry leading 2U (3.5" height) rackmount power density, with output isolation for units rated up through 2000 Vdc. This product series utilizes Magna-Power Electronics signature current-fed power processing, delivering robust power conversion with a high power factor greater than 0.92 for 3Φ units. Soft-start circuitry on the input minimizes in-rush current to levels below the rated input current. High accuracy programming and monitoring levels allow confidence in power supply measurements, eliminating the need for external power meters.
High 2U Power Density and High Voltage Models Available
The XR Series products delivers up to 10 kW and up to 10,000 Vdc in a 2U (3.5" height) package, while still maintaining the reliability customers have come to expect from Magna-Power. Whether the application demands high voltage or high current, more power levels and models means the XR Series can better target requirements without over-sizing the power supply.
High Frequency IGBT-based Switch-Mode Design
The XR Series utilizes the latest IGBT devices to drive down size and increase performance. The high frequency design delivers fast transient response and low output ripple. This performance coupled with Magna-Power's rugged current-fed power processing, enables confidence in even the most demanding applications.
Electronic Output Stage
The XR Series output stage utilizes constant power loading under all conditions via an electronic bleed resistance. This electronic bleeder means stability under all operating conditions and faster fall times, without affecting the overall system efficiency.
Fully Programmable Power
All XR Series functions and features of are available and programmable from a variety of control methods, including:
- Stepless front panel knobs
- 37-pin isolated analog-digital I/O
- Computer interface with software and drivers
Various programming interfaces are available, such as LXI TCP/IP Ethernet (+LXI), IEEE-488 GPIB (+GPIB), Edgeport USB Accessory Converter, RS485 Accessory Converter.
Isolated External I/O for Automation
Using the rear 37-pin I/O connector, the XR Series power supplies can be completely controlled and monitored using external signals. The voltage, current, over voltage trip, and over current trip set points are set by applying a 0-10 Vdc signal. Each diagnostic condition is given a designated pin, which reads 5 Vdc when high. In addition, reference 5 Vdc and 10 Vdc signals are provided, eliminating the need for external voltage signals and allowing the use of dry contacts. Also, the power supply features an external interlock, which when enabled, allows the power supply to be tied in with other emergency stop equipment. All these pins are isolated to earth-ground as standard--no additional isolation equipment or options necessary.
Designed for Safety
XR Series power supplies have extensive diagnostic functions, including: phase loss, excessive thermal conditions, over voltage trip (programmable), over current trip (programmable), cleared fuse, and excessive program line voltage. When in standby or diagnostic fault, the AC mains are mechanically disconnected via an embedded AC contactor, providing confidence that the unit is only processing power when desired.
XR Version Standard Front Panel
XR models provide stepless analog control from front panel potentiometers. With a simple configuration change, the power supply can be programmed from the rear I/O connector or through software on one of the communications bus. XRC Version Front Panel
XRC models only allow control from the rear connector or by RS-232/GPIB/Ethernet communications. These models are intended for process control applications where front panel controls and displays are not required or desired. More Info >>
Extensive Programming Support and Included Software
All XR Series power supplies come standard with a National Instruments LabVIEW™ and LabWindows™/CVI drivers. In addition, an IVI driver is included supporting Visual C++, Visual C#, Visual Basic .NET, MATLAB, Measure Foundry, PAWS, Visual Basic 6.0, and Agilent VEE Pro. A Standard Commands for Programmable Instrumentation (SCPI) command set is also supported, allowing programming using raw ASCII commands. Finally, Magna-Power's RIS Panel software is provided allowing for a virtual control panel controlling the power supply via any of the available communication interfaces.
Ruggedized Option (+RUG): military-standard (MIL-STD) rated ruggedized option SL Series and XR Series programmable DC power supplies
The Ruggedized Option, tested to MIL-STD-810G functional shock and vibration specifications, allows Magna-Power's commercial programmable DC power supplies to be integrated in applications that have high levels of shock and vibration. Option +RUG is available for 1U SL Series spanning 1.5 kW to 8 kW, and 2U XR Series, spanning 2 kW to 10 kW, and should be specified at time of order with option code +RUG.
Models Ordering Guide
The following chart details the available standard XR Series models. The Current Maximum (Adc) column is separated by the available power levels. To determine the appropriate model, first select your output Voltage Maximum (Vdc) to find appropriate row. Next, select one desired Current Maximum from the row that contains your desired Voltage Maximum. Then, construct you model number according to the model ordering guide, above. Non-standard voltage and current configurations are available.

Models above 2000 Vdc have high slew rate output. For models 2000 Vdc and below with the High Slew Rate Output Option (+HS), ripple will be higher.
* Outputs over 1000 Vdc are not isolated. At time of order, must specify positive (POS) of negative (NEG) output terminal grounded. Example: XR10000-0.60/480NEG+LXI.
