Diglient Pmod DA4 Eight 12-Bit D/A Outputs

Features and Specifications

  • Eight-channel, 12-bit DAC
  • Capable of eight simultaneous outputs
  • High-speed DSP compatible
  • Power-down function capability
  • Low power consumption
  • 1.2 in × 0.8 in (3.0 cm × 2.0 cm) PCB size
  • 6-pin Pmod connector with SPI interface
  • 3.3V Logic Level
  • Follows Digilent Interface Specification Type 2 (SPI)

The Pmod DA4 utilizes Analog Devices AD5628-1 to provide a signal DAC capable of 8 simultaneous output channels. With its internal reference voltage of 1.25V and a gain of 2, a resolution of approximately 1 mV can be achieved.

The Pmod DA4 follows Digilent's Interface Specification Type 2 which communicates with the host board via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) protocol. By driving the Chip Select (CS) line to a logic level low voltage, users may send a series of 32 bits of information with the data clocked into the appropriate register on the falling edge of the Serial Clock (SCLK). Once the 32nd bit of information has been clocked in, the command that was sent in the data stream is executed.

Pmod Series Overview

The Digilent Pmod (peripheral module) Series is a small, low-cost peripheral module that can be used with a wide range of embedded systems and development boards. It is designed to extend the capabilities of embedded systems and development boards by adding new features and functionality. The Pmod communicates with host boards using 6, 8 or 12-pin connectors that can carry multiple digital control signals, taking advantage of standard serial protocols such as SPI and I²C. This allows for more effective designs by routing analog signals and power supplies only where they are needed and away from digital controller boards.
